The year 2021 will belong to Lem

In 2021 we will celebrate the centenary of the birth of Stanisław Lem - writer, futurologist and philosopher, whose work ignites the imagination of readers all around the world. Books by Poland's most frequently translated author have been published in 45 languages and in millions of copies. To mark this anniversary, a special website, www.roklema.pl, will be launched.

The site will present all events planned in connection with the 100th anniversary of Stanisław Lem's birthday, announcements of new editions and previously unpublished materials, as well as competitions with prizes. 2021 will see the publication of an impressive, new biography of Lem written by Agnieszka Gajewska, which presents him from a hitherto unknown side, as well as a special book by Wojciech Orliński about the writer's creative clash with the reality of the People's Republic of Poland.

We invite you to read Agnieszka Gajewska's earlier book published by AMU Press - Holocaust and the Stars. The Past in the Prose of Stanisław Lem. The monograph places Stanisław Lem's work into the main currents of post-war Polish prose, including 'The Colombus Generation', the prose of the 'Small Realism' movement, pacifist prose and intellectual reckoning.
