Badania autora koncentrują się na zagadnieniach artyzmu i cech gatunkowych poematów dydaktycznych o tematyce astronomicznej oraz tzw. "metafory epistemologicznej". Rozdział I zawiera rozważania o poemacie astronomicznym jako odmianie eposu dydaktycznego. Rozdział II poświęcony jest greckiej epice dydaktycznej i początkom poezji astralnej. Rozdział III analizuje "Kosmos Georgik Wergiliusza". Wiele uwagi poświęca autor językowemu charakterowi poznania, "operacjom na słowach". Zna dobrze nie tylko wielojęzyczną literaturę naukową dotyczącą autorów staro-żytnych, ale doskonale orientuje się także w najnowszych pracach teoretycznoliterackich. This book is an attempt at capturing the typical features of the genre variety of didactic epic of an astronomical poem. The author analysed Latin translations of Aratus' Phae-nomena, Marcus Manilius' poem Astronomica, and Virgil's Georgics, the last one being the model text for all kinds of didactic epic. The aim of this work was to find an answer to the question about what type of thinking about science and literature led to the rise of the astronomical epic. In the light of analyses, the scientific character of the astronomical epic appears to be a peculiar type: the main aim here is not so much to present the fund of astronomical or astrological knowledge, but rather to show the ethical, aesthetic and metaphysical significance of this knowledge.
