Celem dociekań interdyscyplinarnych nad fenomenem tetralogii Brandstaettera jest analiza literackich wyobrażeń Jezusa Chrystusa jako ikony. Ikona w sferze duchowości stanowi locus theologicus – stąd twórczość Brandstaettera jest odczytywana jako literacki locus theologicus. W założeniu praca dowodzi możliwości przyłożenia do tekstu wyznaczników hermeneutyki ikony (analiza jako relacji Słowa Tradycji, parenezy, aktu samoobjawiania Boga, inkarnacji Logosu, kontemplatywności, chrystologicznego i personalistycznego wymiaru Słowa i Obrazu). W pracy analizowana jest bogata symbolika lumenarna jako podstawowe tworzywo budowania literackiej ikony za pomocą konstrukcji językowych, dokonana jej identyfikacja oraz wskazana proweniencja wzajemnie dopełniających się źródeł, które stanowią o oryginalnym toku myślenia Brandstaettera.

An icon is a locus theologicus in the sphere of spirituality, which is why Brandstaetter’s works have been interpreted as a literary locus theologicus. This monograph argues for the possibility of applying the markers of icon hermeneutics (an analysis of interrelationships between the Word and Tradition, parenesis, the act of God’s self-revelation, incarnation of Logos, contemplativeness, the Christological and personalistic model of communicating the Word and Image, as well as the Creation and Creator) to the text. It is necessary to use an interdisciplinary approach (literary and biblical studies) to interpret the intertwining religious, ethical, philosophical, literary and esthetic elements in the verbal images of Christ. This monograph analyzes rich, luminary symbolism as the basic material for building a literary icon by using linguistic structures, then identifies it and points to the provenances of complementary sources which determine Brandstaetter’s original line of thinking. It makes an attempt to reveal the literary iconosphere through analyzing language that is saturated with the "imagery” of symbolism.
