Największy z dotychczasowych słownik zapożyczeń włoskich istniejących współcześnie w języku polskim. Autorka zebrała ponad 1000 leksemów i uchwyciła różne ich grupy formalne i semantyczne, poczynając od cytatów, a kończąc na wyrazach od stuleci przyswojonych. Rozbudowany system kwantyfikatorów przynosi bogactwo treści związanych z etymologią i funkcjonowaniem w dzisiejszej polszczyźnie omawianych leksemów. Słownik zawiera materiały bogate pod względem informacji językoznawczych i kulturowych uwarunkowań kontaktów polsko-włoskich. Będzie z pożytkiem służyć nie tylko polonistom, ale także badaczom zajmującym się ekspansją kultury włoskiej.

This is the first so extensive and comprehensive book in Polish linguistic literature devoted to the influence of the Italian language on the Polish language. The author focused her attention mainly on the borrowings used in the second half of the 20th century and at the turn of the millennia. However, it has been established by the author that from among 1,096 words collected ca. 45.35% of the material are words which come from the previous centuries. And so, for example, the most numerous terminology of Italian origin documented in modern Polish, i.e. the one that concerns music was borrowed chiefly, as was the case of this kind of borrowings by other languages, in the 19th century. In the next chapters the author presents the historical background of the Italian influence in Poland, chronological distribution of the borrowings, the different semantic categories to which they belong, graphic, phonological, morphological (inflectional and word-formation) adaptation as well as changes in the meaning to which these words were submitted in the process of adoption. The second part of the book is a comprehensive and detailed dictionary of Italianisms presenting the whole material collected by the author, mainly in the synchronic interpretation, but also with references to history.
