This book is an attempt at dramatological analysis of Stefan Żeromski`s theatrical plays, including both their main subject matter connected with the Promethean myth as well as evolution of their dramatic form. Here the autor took into consideration also the specific order of reception of these works, which is expressed in the construction of three parts of the book. The fundamental point of reference as far as genre is concerned is tragedy, but, on the one hand, it is submitted to the influence of melodrama, and, on the other, the piece bien faite construction. Trying to encompass the experience of social life before and after Poland regained independience, the autor modifies the dramatic form - Żeromski`s last play is a comedy which reveals a new situation of the hero and new cognitive possibilities of drama.
