This book is an attempt at presentation of one of the main initiatives, which was the idea of organisation of trade of agricultural produce and of other goods through the system of commodity exchanges as well as using this way to attempt to carry out the revamping of the hitherto relation in this area. The restoration in the 20s of the 20th century and development a decade later of a network of the domestic commodity exchanges was also an indirect way of restructuring and modernisation of the domestic outlet for agricultural produce and other raw materials. In this book the author tried to indicate the political, social and economic factors which determined the speed and scope of building of this alternative distribution channel. Another area of problems on which the author concentrated his attention were the functions of the exchange apparatus. Several such fields are distinguished such as exchange customs, standardisation processes, tax system, influence on the formation of domestic prices and participation in the intervention policies of the state, mainly in case of domestic agriculture. The problem which is also described was the social origin and professional experience of those who were the authorities of particular exchanges. Using the preserved source materials the author described the circumstances in which exchanges were founded, their organisational structure and the scope of activities of particular commodity exchanges which were operating during the twenty years between the two world wars.
