Praca stanowi głos w debacie na temat przyszłości Unii Europejskiej w sytuacji, gdy niepowodzeniem skończył się projekt budowania państwa europejskiego oraz gdy pojawiła się konieczność sprostania wyzwaniu stwarzanemu przez globalizację zewnętrzną i wewnętrzną, migracje i rosnącą wielokulturowość społeczeństw krajów europejskich. Przedmiot rozważań koncentruje się na społecznych widnokręgach mieszkańców Unii Europejskiej, jej obywateli i nie-obywateli. Widnokręgi przybyszów i ich potomków, zwłaszcza członków enklaw i transmigrantów oraz ludności przyjmującej, wyznaczają ich wzajemne relacje, a te decydują o modelu stosunków zachodzących między członkami społeczeństw państw członkowskich. Wskazano na wzajemne powiązania pomiędzy widnokręgami społecznymi, tożsamościami oraz integracją społeczną i kulturową. This book is a voice in the debate about the future of the European Union in the situation where the project of constructing the European state has failed and when there has appeared the necessity of meeting the challenge created by external and internal globalization, migrations and the growing multiculturalism of the many different societies in European states.
The discussion concerns the social horizons of the inhabitants of the European Union, both its citizens and non-citizens. The horizons of the newcomers and their descendants, especially the members of enclaves and transmigrants, as well as the host societies, define their mutual relations - which decide about the model of relationships occurring in the member states. There exist mutual relations between social horizons, identities, and the social and cultural integration. The key issues include the European identity in the context of the view and the potential mission of Europe in theact of building the world community, and the consequences of different concepts of the European and state citizenship for the integration of immigrants. From this perspective, an attempt has been made to answer the question about the chances of success for the project of creating the cosmopolitan Europe.
