Praca łączy dzieła tradycjonalne, drugorzędne z nowatorskimi, pokazując, jak schematy ludyczne niskiej farsy i komedii tworzą nowoczesną formułę literatury wysokiej. Książka może być wykorzystana jako podręcznik dla studentów filologii polskiej.

In this book the author observes changes that occurred in Polish comedy in the twenty years between the two world wars, and tries to combine traditionally oriented dramaturgy with the achievements of innovators in this field. An allusion in the subtitle of the book to Yuri Tinianov's "arkhaisti i novatori" (archaists and innovators) defines the direction in which went the author's considerations, and for which the point of departure is comedy seen in the genological perspective as a low genre and the final moment is an attempt at description of changes and regularities occurring in the innovative drama, which in manifold ways refers to the rules of the comedy. Dead models of ludic genres which are melted into a new dramaturgic tissue become a creative form of an interpretation of a certain way of seeing the world, society and human condition. The proposed interpretation of the subject matter of Polish comedy in the twenty years between the two world wars induces us to conclude that the area between lyricism and the absurd determines the poetics of the genre.
