Przedmiotem pracy jest analiza aspektu treściowego i formalnego gnom i wiązek gnomicznych w pieśniach Pindara. Autorka traktuje tę odmianę literacką bądź jako odzwierciedlenie archaicznych sentencji, maksym, aforyzmów, przysłów itp., bądź jako wyraz światopoglądu samego poety. Zarysowuje strukturę epinikionu, w którym gnoma wraz z opowiedzianym mitem i elementami enkomiastycznymi gra rolę podstawową.

The present book is the result of studies in gnomes and long gnomic sequences selected from epinicians and fragments of Pindar's odes. The task of this dissertation is to investigate Pindar's maxims as elements of the structure of the victory ode as well as ideas or general truths which are present in the poet's mind. The first chapter of this book is devoted to a presentation of the origins, evolution and character of gnome. The first section of the second chapter focuses on the position of gnome in the structure of Pindar's epinician. The second section deals with the significance of key words which recur throughout Pindar's maxims. These words were chosen as a criterion according to which the author has tried to classify gnomic statements.
