Edukacja mniejszości rasowych i etnicznych w Stanach Zjednoczonych

Interdyscyplinarna rozprawa dotycząca jednego z najtrudniejszych problemów szkolnictwa amerykańskiego – nasilającej się od lat 80. XX wieku segregacji rasowej i etnicznej w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Rasa i rasizm przenikają całą sferę edukacyjną – od aspiracji do uczenia się po kształcenie nauczycieli.

Autorka rozpoczyna analizę problemową od teorii ras: krytycznej teorii ras, teorii marksistowskich, studiów dotyczących „whiteness” i kulturowych studiów rasy. Kolejnym ich przedmiotem są przyczyny biedy ludności kolorowej, od początków gettoizacji w śródmieściach metropolii po współczesną urbanizację neoliberalną. Najobszerniejsza część pracy dotyczy czynników wpływających na przepaść w osiągnięciach szkolnych uczniów rasy białej i uczniów kolorowych, a kolejna traktuje o sytuacji studentów w okresie neoliberalnych reform szkolnictwa wyższego. Monografia obejmuje także koncepcje poprawy szkolnictwa dla mniejszości rasowych i etnicznych (formułowane z jednej strony przez pedagogów, a z drugiej strony przez neokonserwatystów i neoliberałów). Kończy ją rozdział o trudnościach w reformowaniu szkół apartheidu, nawet w miastach rządzonych przez Afroamerykanów.

Książka przeznaczona jest dla przedstawicieli wielu dyscyplin naukowych. W pierwszym rzędzie pedagogów porównawczych, ale i politologów (polityka oświatowa Stanów Zjednoczonych), ekonomistów (finansowanie szkolnictwa), socjologów (relacje rasowe i klasowe, nierówności edukacyjne i społeczne), psychologów (kształtowanie się tożsamości rasowych) czy kulturoznawców (różnice kulturowe w społeczeństwie amerykańskim).

Race and ethnic segregation is growing in United States since the 80. years of XX century. Race and racism are penetrating the whole school system in America, starting from the aspiration for education and ending with the preparation of teachers.

Chapter one deals with the race theories: critical theories of race, marxsists theory, whiteness studies and cultural theory of race and racism. Then author analysis critically causes of poverty of race and ethnic minorities starting from the beginning of gettoization in American metropolies till the current neoliberal urbanization. The biggest part of monograph deals with the factors causing the gap in school achievements between pupils of colour and their white classmates. Next chapter presents the situation of students from race and ethnic minorities in higher education during the neoliberal reforms.

Authors analysis embrace also many conceptions of revitalization apartheid schools prepared by educationists, neoconservatists and neoliberals as well as huge difficulties in practicing them, even in the cities governed by Afroamerican.

This interdisciplinary monograph deals with problems interesting for many scientific disciplines. First of all for comparative education but also for political science (educational politics), economy (financing the school system), sociology (race and class relations, educational and social inequalities), psychology (creating the race identity) and for cultural studies (cultural differencies in American society).
