Centralną perspektywą epistemologiczną książki jest perspektywa historycznoliteracka. Autorka pyta: jak przedstawiają się dzieje polskiej prozy okresu międzywojennego, gdy przyglądamy się im, analizując utwory pisarek zarówno dobrze (Zofia Nałkowska) czy też nieźle (Helena Boguszewska, Aniela Gruszecka) znanych czytelnikom opracowań, jak i kiedyś głośnych, a przez badaczy niemal całkowicie zapomnianych (Wanda Melcer, Irena Krzywicka, Elżbieta Szemplińska). Książka ukazuje nie tylko odrębność nurtu kobiecego, ale i jego związki z potężnymi wówczas żywiołami czy dylematami literatury, takimi jak impet reportażu, ewolucje prozy psychologicznej, wreszcie rozdarcie literatury między ambicjami sztuki a pokusami rynku. Książka została włączona do kanonu lektur studentów polonistyki poznańskiej i wykorzystywana jest w dydaktyce uniwersyteckiej.

The central epistemological perspective of the book is the one of the history of literature. The author asks a question: What is the history of Polish prose of the period between the two world wars when we look at it, analysing works by well-known women writers such as (Zofia Nałkowska) or less known such as Helena Boguszewska, Aniela Gruszecka to the readers of studies on literature, or those who used to be known, but are now almost completely forgotten (Wanda Melcer, Irena Krzywicka, El?bieta Szemplińska). This book shows not only the differences of the female trend, but also its relations with the then powerful elements or dilemmas of literature, such as the impetus of reportage, evaluations of psychological prose, and finally, the conflict between ambitions of art and the temptations of the book market. This book has been included into the reading list for the students of Polish in Poznan and is used in the university teaching.
