Problem relacji między edukacją (wykształceniem) a nierównościami społecznymi stanowi integralny przedmiot badań w ramach socjologii edukacji. W tradycji badań w tym zakresie zderzają się różnorodne paradygmaty i podejścia – od funkcjonalistów strukturalnych, poprzez teorię reprodukcji społeczno-kulturowej do interakcjonizmu czy poststrukturalizmu. Prezentowana książka stanowi próbę interdyscyplinarnej analizy różnorodnych, wybranych kontekstów zagadnienia i przedstawia obraz trajektorii dostępu do sukcesu społecznego poprzez edukację oraz trajektorii społecznej marginalizacji. The traditional theoretical approaches to this research field range from structural functionalism, theories of economic and socio-cultural reproduction to post-structuralism and interactionism.
