Książka jest pierwszym tomem szerszej publikacji poświęconej doktorom honoris causa Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu. Z rozproszonych materiałów źródłowych starano się wiernie odtworzyć jeden z ważnych, ale też i szczególnych fragmentów historii uczelni. W okresie międzywojennym zaszczytny tytuł doktora honoris causa otrzymało dwudziestu czterech uczonych i polityków z Polski i zagranicy. W publikacji zaprezentowano ich sylwetki w układzie chronologicznym. W każdym przypadku odtworzono kalendarium procesu przyznawania tytułu (wniosek Rady Wydziału, uchwałę Senatu, uroczystość wręczenia dyplomu). Dużą wartość mają przedstawione teksty przemówień reprezentantów władz Uniwersytetu, promotorów bądź samych doktorów honorowych. Całość uzupełnia serwis fotograficzny.

This is the first volume of an extensive publication that is devoted to the doctor honoris causa degree holders at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The authors tried to faithfully recreate one important and very special period in the university’s history by using diverse sources. During the interwar period twenty-four Polish as well as foreign scholars and politicians were awarded the honorary degree of doctor honoris causa. In this book they are characterized in a chronological order. In each case the chronology of the process of conferring the title is presented (an application filed by the Faculty Board, the University Senate’s resolution, and the ceremony conferring the title). The texts of the speeches given by the representatives of the university authorities, supervisors or honorary doctorate holders themselves that are presented here are of great value. This material is complemented by a selection of photographs.
