Na książkę składa się dziesięć studiów uwidoczniających romantyczną dążność do podkreślenia podmiotowej perspektywy w oglądzie i ocenie świata w ujęciu różnych twórców: Antoniego Malczewskiego, Adama Mickiewicza,Juliusza Słowackiego, Cypriana Norwida, Narcyzy Żmichowskiej i innych romantycznych pisarek. Każdy z tekstów, widziany z osobna, zawiera nowe,ważne projekty interpretacyjne, odkrywcze rozpoznania tak w kwestii spuścizny badanych pisarzy, jak i zwłaszcza w sferze ekspresji romantycznego „ja”w ich tekstach; głównie poetyckich, ale też prozatorskich i epistolarnych.Wszystkie, czytane razem, dają wieloraki wgląd w problematykę romantycznych autokreacji, wprowadzając na plan pierwszy literatów wybitnych, drugoplanowych,a czasem zupełnie trzeciorzędnych. Tworzą niezwykle ciekawą panoramę różnych sposobów formowania owego „ja”. Książka zajmuje poczesne miejsce w dziedzinie badań zjawiska romantycznej podmiotowości.

The book Przygody romantycznego “J a ”. Idee - strategie twórcze - rezonanse [Adventures of the Romantic "I". Ideas - Creative Strategies - Resonances] is a collection of ten studies on the Romantic subjectivity prepared by authors from different research centers in Poland (Białystok, Gdańsk, Lublin, Łódź, Poznań, Toruń, Warsaw] on the initiative of the Department of Literature and Tradition of Romanticism at the University of Łódź. It is an attempt to describe the phenomenon of Romantic subjectivity, both in terms of synthetic interpretation, taking into account the contemporary philosophical thought, reflection, theoretical and historical, as well as complex, creative individual realizations of Antoni Malczewski, Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Słowacki, Cyprian Norwid, Narcyza Żmichowska, forgotten today but once recognized Romantic poetesses. Studies on the structure of the Romantic subject documented in the book also included the consequences of the subjective perspective of the view and evaluation of the world as far as the poetic language, literary forms and ways of reception by the readers.
Essays collected in this volume do not close deliberately the problems undertaken, many a time they start a dialogue in order to show the complex, multi-variant and dynamically evolving construction of the Romantic "I" which, according to the authors, had a significant impact on the shape of modern culture, including our contemporary culture.
