The book W stronę socjologii przedmiotóow [Towards sociology of objects], is an attempt at a sociological reflection on material objects. The objects which we use every day are not usually submitted to reflection even though they are the material of which the world surrounding us as constructed and our closest culture. Reflection of this type seems to be even more necessary the more we are objects absorb us, the greater number of them we consume, the greater problems we have with their surplus. This book contains seventeen monographs of everyday objects, such objects which we encounter every day on our way and which accompany us in the most banal activities. Each text is a separate whole. They are separate texts both as far as the manner of conducting theoretical reflection is concerned and also with respect to evaluation of the role played by material goods in social life. The common denominator of all these texts is that they are all by sociologists who were inspired by the wish to break the conspiracy of silence concerning the materiality of everyday life.
