The Sphagnum subsecundum complex (Sphagnaceae): morphological variability and taxonomic implications

22,00 zł

In the first part of the study (chapters 1 and 2) the potential causes of morphological variability detected within the Sphagnum subsecundum complex are presented. Flow cytometric measurements of nuclear DNA content and isozyme studies coupled with morphological analysis were made in order to detect hybridization as the cause of morphological intermediacy in co-occurring diploid S. Inundatum and its parental species S. Subsecundum. The results are presented in chaper 1. Chapter 2 investigates the influence of enviromental conditions upon morphology of Sphagnum denticulatum.
The second part of the study comprises a taxoniomic description of detected morphological groups on the basis of available herbarium specimens (chapter 3). Chapter 4 tests the reliability of distinguished morphs by applying quantative analysis.
Each of the following chapters includes: a brief introduction explaining the concept, more specific questions, the scientific background for each experiment and its results, a discussion and a list of references.
The last part of the study is a general overview of entire study and the most important issues for the future.
