Książka stanowi rezultat badań prowadzonych głównie w Niemczech i efekt współpracy autora z czołowym znawcą średniowiecznej i renesansowej kultury muzycznej, prof. dr Martinem Staehelinem (Uniwersytet w Getyndze).

The subject of this book is the repertoire of three related manuscript books with polyphonic music from the end of the 15th c. from Saxony and Silesia and now stored in the libraries in Berlin, Leipzig and Warsaw. It is the first attempt at a comprehensive stylistic qualification of works recorded in these codices in the context of European music of the end of the 15th c. Stylistic analysis is preceded by the hitherto unknown findings as to the origin of manuscript and characteristics of transmission of the repertoire contained in these manuscripts. Results of studies enhance the hitherto knowledge by adding new data on the character of the local musical tradition in Saxony and Silesia and on the mechanism of reception of the ambitious Italian and Netherlandish repertoire in these territories. Saxo-Silesian codices while showing a specific colour of musical culture of these areas, also shed a lot of light on the character of musica figurata as practiced in the whole Central Europe before the Reformation.
