W prezentowanym zbiorze podjęto problem podmiotowości obecny w różnych tradycjach filozoficznych i kulturoznawczych. Zagadnienie to badane jest współcześnie przez filozofię umysłu, filozofię języka, cognitive science z odniesieniem do różnych dyscyplin (neuroscience, językoznawstwo, logika, neuropsychologia). W namyśle nad ludzką podmiotowością i umysłem filozofowie przeszli drogę od traktowania umysłu jako indywidualnego tworu, poprzez wierność tradycji kartezjańskiej, aż do rozumienia podmiotowości jako tworu ponadindywidualnego (w antropologii kulturowej czy socjologii).
Autorami zbioru są przedstawiciele kilku dyscyplin naukowych, a wszystkie te tendencje znajdują swoiste w nim odzwierciedlenie.

The volume titled Whose mind? is a collection of essays dedicated to selected, contemporary approaches to the notion of mind and subjectivity. Those are aprroaches present in the philosophy of mind, philosophy of language and communication, in the philosophy of science and in more detailed disciplines of human sciences, like: cognitive science, sociology and cultural anthropology. Authors, presenting and critically analyzing various concepts, concentrate on two types of approaches to the phenomena of mind. The first approach connects subjectivity with mind, which is treated as exclusively human characteristic (understood according to Cartesian tradition). This perspective treats mind as an. unquestionable trait of each human being. The second approach views subjectivity of human beings as dominated by sbcio-cultural systems (like culture), which determine individual subjectivity.
