This unique collection of the Solovetskiy documents contains personal names of 3,570 people (males) dwelling in the period discussed on the Kola Peninsula and on the southern coast of the White Sea, in the river-basin of the Onega and lower Severnaya Dvina, in Karelia and Kargopol. An anthroponymic system which operated and developed in the North of Russia at the end of the 15th and in the 16th century may be described as proprietary-appellative. In many personal names, besides proper names - Christian names, traditional non-Christian names, personal names derived from appellatives, nicknames, foreign personal names (mostly of Turko-Tatar origin), patronymics (matronymics), one also encounters additional lexical elements to identify people, i.e. formations derived toponymically, names of professions, social position, religious functions, etc. In the present publication all the anthroponymic material is shown in the list in the alphabetical order. The list is not only an index of personal names but also a lexicon. It includes all structural, morphological and phonetic variations. Complete source documentation is provided.
