This book is a collection of papers delivered at a conference entitled "Karne aspekty spowodowania uszczerbku na zdrowiu w prawie polskim, niemieckim i austriackim" [Criminal Aspects of Causing Bodily Harm in Polish, German, and Austrian Law] which was held on 10 and 11 January 2013 in Poznań. These papers present the results of studies that were carried out by Polish and German academic staff members of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and Viadrina European University, Frankfurt (Oder). These studies were concerned with legal regulations related to causing damage to health as seen from the perspective of criminal law in different legal systems, which made it possible to compare the approaches to given problems that are used in those legal systems. The book provides insights into topics related to problems and inconsistencies that have been identified in the studied legal systems by taking into account the Polish, German, and Austrian legal doctrines as well as the relevant judicial decisions. This compilation of approaches to particular problems that are used in different legal systems will allow those who function within one legal system only to perceive the previously unnoticeable possibility of adopting other constructive solutions. Therefore, this book is recommended to people working in the judiciary and those who deal with making and implementing laws as well as to academic staff members, students and doctoral students.
