Książka stanowi z jednej strony próbę pogłębionej lektury dramaturgii ostatnich dwudziestu lat. Z drugiej zaś wyrasta z fascynacji i zachwytu nad najnowszymi badaniami z kręgu kultury miasta. Autorka wręcz redefiniuje dramat jako rodzaj literacki przez miasto. Zostało ono potraktowane jak tekst, temat i struktura: Miasto-bohater, Ja-Miasto prowadzi swoją narrację, pokazuje własną tożsamość, odkrywa osobistą historię. Zbudowaną z „podsłuchanych” narracji cząstkowych, rozproszonych podmiotowości i rozbitej na puzzle opowieści, z degradowanego dramaturgicznego dialogu, postaci i fabuły. Omawiane narracje miasta stają się udramatyzowanym zapisem jego teorii, adaptowaną na scenę publicystyką, wykładem socjologicznym, medioznawczą refleksją.

This book is devoted to Polish and foreign-language drama of the last two decades. The motif uniting the twelve essays contained in this volume is the figurę of a city both traditional and post-modern one, which is a transgenological foundation of poetics of the works discussed. The prob-lems are concentrated around several issues derived from the urban planning, anthropological, media science and sociological discourse, which become a key for interpretation of contemporary drama, which "reflects" it. The bracket for the multiplied research optics are the tools of the cultural theory of literaturę. The city perspective assumed in the book as a basis of considerations serves as a matter of fact the recognition of genological transformations of the drama in recent years, which in many cases no longer fits in within the traditional framework of the genre.
