Izokrates jako twórca parenezy w prozie greckiej

PLN 29.00

The present study attempts, first, to show the literary roots of paraenesis, and then to confront them with the legacy of Isocrates, an Athenian theoretician and practitioner of rhetoric, author and publicist of the 4th century BC. In his four works, collectively known as the Cyprian speeches, Isocrates coined an entirely new literary genre. He used the rich heritage of the.earlier centuries but transformed it to fit the new socio-political and cultural reality, pouring a new spirit into the old forms.
The model of paraenetic literature, as developed by Isocrates, was then imitated by prose writers of the Greek enlightenment: Xenophon, Plato, Thucydides.
