Tadeusz J. Żuchowski, "Zachować, zmienić, zburzyć. Losy pomników w czasach przemian"
The published papers are a result of a conference organized under the same title and was conceived as a multi-directional discussion on the problem of unwanted monuments, especially those of exceptional artistic value, because their status is special. The reference point is the monument in Olsztyn realized by the outstanding Polish sculptor Xawery Dunikowski (1875-1964). In this publication, the case of the Olsztyn monument has been set in a broader context. Individual authors raise the problem of the monument in the city, its location and function, as well as the reasons for their destruction or translocation. Monuments are one of the most important carriers of memory. No wonder that the issue of memory becomes the key issue in the dispute over monuments. In addition to the papers, an important place in the book are voices in the discussion, which during the conference revolved around three issues: monument and context, Olsztyn monument narratives and unwanted heritage.
