Ed. Małgorzata Grzywacz, Małgorzata Okupnik, Children and the Wartime Experience. The 20th and the 21st Centuries
This volume gathers the proceedings of an interdisciplinary conference "Children and the Wartime Experience. The 20th and the 21st Centuries", held in 2019 in Poznań and it followed up on the interest in the wartime experiences of civilians. The book is arranged thematically and offers a wide spectrum of dramatic and often overlooked wartime experiences of children in the 20th and 21st centuries in different parts of the world (Poland, Belarus, Nazi Germany, Spain, Korea, Japan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Syria). It also gives an insight into the artistic and musical representations of these experiences and deals with such painful and difficult subject as the recruitment of children for combat in specific war situations. Wartime experiences are not only a problem for the survivors but also for the following generations and accordingly, the book deals with the issue of remembering and reworking the traumas of the past.
